TV Mounting, is it for you?

Many of our customers love the look of a mounted TV but are often overwhelmed when we start asking questions. So we thought we would put together a quick FAQ for those considering mounting their TV.

Should you mount? Mounting is a great option to eliminate wire clutter and give that professional look and feel that truly accents a room the right way. But there are a few things to consider. The first one being, do you have a place to put the rest of your equipment? So often customers forget there are a number of pieces of equipment that run their system. We recommend a small hutch or cabinet below the TV. This will allow an area to house equipment and cover up any outlets. Of course, for larger systems, we recommend running wires to a central rack to get all of your equipment in one place out of the way. But we will get into rack systems in a later blog.

Another big question is what style of mount is best? With flat, tilt, articulating and custom mounting options available you need to consider your environment. If you are trying to mount your tv in a room with a lot of natural or artificial light glare can become a major concern. In this situation, we recommend a tilt or articulating mount to provide you multiple viewing options as your lighting changes. Articulating mounts are also ideal for rooms with multiple viewing areas such as a living room attached to a kitchen. You can adjust your screen as the situation dictates. (Keep in mind that larger TV’s on articulating mounts are unable to pivot a full 90 degrees due to the weight and distance from the wall.)

But what about flat mounts? We generally discourage the use of true flat mounting options as cables can become bent and broken when smashed against a wall. With a simple tilt mount, you can get the flat look you are trying to achieve while protecting your cables and preventing further investment costs.

Power is another chief concern when mounting your TV in that dream location. If power is not readily nearby we will need to coordinate with one of our electrical partners to provide an option which inevitably drives the cost of the installation higher. So be sure to verify power is nearby before you set your heart on a certain mounting location.

Lastly, you should consider where you will be mounting your TV. Many Florida homes are built with cement blocks on all exterior walls. This makes mounting and fishing wires an incredibly challenging task that can often bust the budget you might be trying to stay within.

Overall a professionally mounted tv can make a big difference in any room. Providing a clean clutter free solution in any home.
